Why Buy Our Concept vs. You Teaching Yourself?

Our concept offers you the opportunity to enter the business of professional furniture refinishing, touch up and repair and to be trained to do professional work.

With the hands on training we provide, you will be able to refinish your customers' furniture the way they want. They will be so happy with your work, that they will tell all their friends who in turn will bring you more work. Your customer base will keep growing, allowing you to build your business.

In our extensive 3 to 4 week training course, you will learn every aspect of professionally restoring furniture back to its original condition. When you graduate, you will feel completely confident that you can do any type of job, that your customers ask you to do.

Anyone Can Do Refinishing!

Why buy our business? Why do we stress professional work? Anyone can do stripping, finishing, repairs and touch up. The products are there in any hardware store. All you have to do is buy them and you are in business. Right? Well consider this:

The Rocking Chair
You have a rocking chair that was your great grandmother's, and you know your Mom would love to have it restored back to the condition it was when she was a child. However, it spent many years at the cottage and received many, many coats of paint. The seat has cracked and you know Grandpa hammered a board on the bottom, so you kids could sit on it. There is so much paint that you can't really tell what else is wrong with the chair.

The obvious first step it to strip the chair. Yes agreed! However, what kinds of paint, finishes and stain are you going to encounter?

There will probably be some lead base paint. There could be a coat of the old milk paints. There could be a coat or two of some exterior paint. Maybe some melamine paint? What about a few coats of varnish? Maybe some lacquer or oil finish or both? What kind of stain? Maybe a faux stain/grain? Maybe some dyes? Which kind? Alcohol base or water base?

So which kind of stripper will you buy? All of them? What if none of them will remove some of the layers? So sand the paint and stain off. Oh really? Let's hope you're not sanding any lead base paint. Maybe one chair won't kill you, but sanding lead base paint on a daily basis can soon destroy your lungs!

Finally, you get the rocking chair stripped and notice all those nails hammered through the legs into the rungs on the bottom, into the spindles, under the arms, and on back of the chair. Now what? Just bang everything apart and hope you don't break anything? Buy one of those glue syringes and force some glue in and leave the nails? What about the seat? Should you leave the board on?

What about the finishing? You've discovered there seems to be a red colour in the seat and some black on the top of the chair. Stripping won't take it out. Neither would sanding. Your Mom thought she remembered the chair was light, maybe an oak colour.

You Finish It!

You decide to stain the chair a light oak. How do you prepare the wood for staining? (We assume it is already stripped.) What kind of wood is in the chair? There is probably at least two and maybe three kinds of wood. So how do you go about matching up all the different colours you'll get if you just use one stain? Or maybe there seem to be spots that won't take any stain. Now what?

How will you apply the finish and what kind? Well, if you brush on a finish, it's very difficult to not get brush marks and little bumps of dirt. Not very professional looking. Right? So, you decide to buy a small electric sprayer.

What kind of finishing product will spray the best with your sprayer? Do you have the right tip and cap?

You go ahead and spray and wonder why there seem to be pin pricks in your finish. Maybe there are bigger marks that look like pockets in the finish. What about at the bottom of the spindles? There is a big pool of finish you can't sand off. What about some areas on the edge of the seat where you sanded through the stain? On your final coat of finish, the spray gun spits, spurts, and leaves drops on the chair seat! Now what?

Well, you now have the chair finished for your Mom. It may not be exactly as she remembered it, but she appreciated your efforts and didn't say anything about the bumps and spots. Of course, you didn't ask her to pay you.

Would A Customer Pay For This Job?

Will your customers appreciate your efforts, if it is not the way they want it? Do you think they will have positive comments to pass on to their friends? How will your business grow this way?

It does not have to be this way at all. The rocking chair described above is not actually that difficult to refinish and repair, if you know which products you need and how to use them.

Knowing the right way is exactly what we teach you! From your first customer, you do a professional job and get paid! Or, you can learn on the job, have people angry at you, not get paid, and not to mention, all the time you wasted trying to figure it out.

What Our Concept Gives You

Our training moves you years ahead in terms of knowledge, skills, earnable money and above all, pride in your work.
