About Us
Sometimes, a pleasurable hobby or interest can become a full time
occupation, especially when you excel at what you do. At first, your talent
might only attract the interest of family or close friends, but word of
mouth is one of the best advertising tools, and before you know it you're at
it full time. And that is how we, Margery Smith and Rita Wagner, moved from
hobby to business!
We both worked for an insurance company, but in our spare time we stripped. And we were very good at it - stripping furniture that is! Our mutual love of restoring wooden furniture and metal items has lead us down a very successful path, and our business which, since its creation back in 1982, has had a remarkable growth.
We tend to put heart and soul into those things we love to do, and that is exactly what we do every day with the furniture and other items we restore for our clients. Each project is approached with real care and attention to detail. Our clients project are each unique in itself, and we respect that uniqueness, taking the time to bring each piece we work on back to perfection. It is quite amazing the transformation on a worn out, broken, scratched, cracked or a dated piece of furniture. Our clients are delighted that we can extend the life of their cherished family pieces, rejuvenate broken and worn out furniture, and restore treasured heirlooms to their former glory.
Having established our current Head Office we Kitchener, Ontario we then opened our 2nd store in Guelph in 1988. Then in 1989 we opened another outlet in Cambridge. Both of these stores continue today as licensed dealers, who have gone through extensive training with us. See locations.
After having established ourselves as 'The Strippers' rejuvenating and repairing various types of furniture, it was probably a natural progression, then, to go from the workshop to the furniture shop.
Our passion continues in the furniture refinishing, but we saw a real need for a high quality consignment store where people like you could FINALLY find good, gently used, high-end quality furniture and home décor.
In February 2001 we opened Bits and Pieces Furniture and Decor, Kitchener-Waterloo’s only Furniture Consignment Store, which offers a wonderful selection of high end used furniture and household items at incredible prices.
Not only does this store allow us to help the environment by keeping large items like furniture out of the landfill, it also gives money back to the sellers and helps the buyer save money.
Then in November 2007, we doubled our floor space at Bits and Pieces and now have a 5,000 square foot showroom of furniture and decor. You can visit this store at 408 Gage Ave, right across from our Strippers store.
